1.) Define culture and cultural competence.
2.) Recognize how cultural competence can be used in dietetics practice.
3.) Develop beginner level understanding of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) communities and their nutrition concerns.
Description: Cultural competence is an ongoing learning process. We will define culture and cultural competency as it pertains to dietitians in their various roles. We will then take a special focus on the LGBTQ communities. We will define key terminology relating to this community and provide information on unique aspects of these communities that may affect their nutrition. We will also go over key ways that dietitians can better serve these communities and be more culturally competent with their care.
